Yonkers Street Art
As a former street art curator for the City of Yonkers, one of my municipal roles as the Director of Waterfront Development was to address the decades of severe urban blight plaguing the Downtown Waterfront District. The solution: develop a highly curated street art scene that includes some of the most popular domestic and international artists in the world. World renowned artists including Eelco van den Berg, Nick Walker, Damien Mitchell, Werc Alvarez, Fumero, BK Foxx, CRASH, etc. often the pioneers in their respective art scene across the globe, would soon plant their flags in Yonkers.
Yonkers inherent grittiness, historic manufacturing past and its pristine natural resources provide for truly unique street canvases. The proliferation street art is a dynamic and socially bonding force in the larger art movement within this formerly industrial waterfront city. As an art advocate, leader and street art curator, I am very fortunate for the opportunity to play a role in the Yonkers art renaissance.

Yonkers Projects
Eelco van den Berg, Boyce Thompson Center Project
I AM EELCO: Boyce Thompson Center Project (Yonkers, NY). Watch Dutch artist Eelco van den Berg complete his mural at the former Boyce Thomspon Institute for Plant Research; the mural pays tribute to William Boyce Thompson's rich history of addressing world hunger issues through advancements in plant research. Thank you Eelco van den Berg, Simone Development, and City of Yonkers, Mayor Mike Spano for the latest addition to the Yonkers art scene. BK Foxx Yonkers Debut
This free hand mural by BKfoxx is an incredibly lifelike depiction of Yonkers resident and aspiring artist Sebastian Carrizales. The concept and final product were nothing short of remarkable. BK’s realism, particularly the inclusion of Sebastian’s own original artwork into this mural, made this project extra special and gives credence to the notion that life imitates art. Special thank you to Mayor Spano, Joe Cotter, National Resources LLC, and Mayor Spano's Hispanic advisory Board member TJ Carrizales for making this project a success.
Canned Heat by Damien Mitchell
WARNING CANNED HEAT IS LIT: "Canned Heat" by Australian artist Damien Mitchell is the latest addition to iPark's mural alley in the Yonkers Downtown Waterfront District. Canned Heat reflects the levity, humor and skill that characterizes Damien's work; one of three unique portraits on Bashford St painted for Yonkers Arts Weekend 2017. Music by Gramatik, song: "Makes Me Wonder"
Eelco van den Berg, UNO Lofts Project
I AM EELCO: UNO Lofts Project. Dutch artist Eelco van den Berg's latest Yonkers (NY) mural in the former Otis Elevator factory, now 100 residential lofts, is one of his best yet. The fox and cat join his other Yonkers public artworks including Wildlife at Mill St. Courtyard, and the Boyce Thompson Institute historic mural. Song Ankaris by Ten Walls.
